Dear Member,
This year we have decided to amalgamate the Annual Report and the Newsletter
into one document. We hope you like this new format.
The Association’s AGM was held on April 28th at Ferriers Barn,
Bures, at 8.00pm, when Peter Sanders (chairman of The Stop Stansted Expansion
Group) was our guest speaker. The expansion of Stansted airport is of
concern to many of us, and so we were very interested to hear from him the
latest developments.
The Association has never faced a more challenging time. Not only is the
region threatened by the consequences of the expansion of Stansted Airport, but
there will be further substantial damage to the environment, if the draft
proposals for housing growth set out on The East of England Plan, which has been
approved by the East Of England Assembly, are implemented in anything like their
current form.
With other interested bodies we actively campaign to keep the integrity of
this area of the country. But
we need to be more effective, and for that we need your help.
We need to enlarge the membership, so that in each village there is a nucleus
of members, who can form a small group to be the eyes and ears of the
Association, to watch out for planning developments and to recruit new members
in their immediate locality. We also need new and young committee members with
new ideas.
I would remind you that any body, such as ours, is only as good as its
members and it is only effective if it is actively supported by its members.
I am therefore asking all members, if they would be kind enough to spend a
few minutes to complete the attached Questionnaire. At the same time could you
kindly indicate whether you will be coming to the AGM and also the Summer Party.
Please return the form in the enclosed envelope.
I look forward to seeing you at our AGM.
Yours sincerely
Simon Ward Chairman
