Jeremy Hill
Jeremy completed his three years’ tenure as Chairman of the Association on
31st December 2004. He succeeded Malcolm Jones – who had achieved so much
during his term – by getting to know the procedures of the planning
departments at Babergh and Braintree as well as building an extensive
understanding of the Association’s area.
He formed good relations with countryside organisations in Essex CPRE and
Suffolk and other conservation agencies.
Having been brought up at Bluebridge House near Halstead, he had a deep
affection for the area. However, one of his principal skills came from what he
and Virginia achieved at Peyton Hall. As those who attended the visit in June
2002 will recall, the Hills have developed the woods and grazing around Peyton into an idyllic setting
which has enhanced the environment.
Another of Jeremy’s fortes is his skill with the pen. His article on Simon
of Sudbury in the Newsletter has been highly praised, as has his article on the
upper reaches of the River Stour.
In summary, Jeremy has been a dedicated campaigner for countryside
conservation as well as an inspiring and tireless Chairman of the Association.
Simon Ward – his successor – and the committee owe Jeremy a great debt of gratitude
for all that he achieved as Chairman. Christopher Robinson
